ELA stands for English Language Arts, and it covers the overlapping subjects of Reading, Language, and Spelling.
Reading - Reading explores different genres and elements of literature, focusing also on vocabulary, comprehension, strategies for reading, context clues, analogies, critical thinking, text features, text structures, figurative language, synthesis of related texts, and following directions.
Language - Language provides a strong basis in the mechanics of the language, focusing on the different parts of speech and their correct usage within writing.
Spelling - Spelling focuses on different spelling patterns and rules. We do a lesson a week, and each lesson focuses on a particular pattern, rule, or skill.
